Directions

We have noticed that Google Maps doesn't always show the right location for Christ the Reconciler.  So, here are directions in the old-fashioned, written format!

From Austin via Manor on 290

As you are approaching Elgin, turn right on County Line Road (just after the Valero).  Proceed about almost 2 miles and take your first left on Monkey Road (watch out, it comes up quickly ... the easy way is to look for the Christmas Tree Farm sign).  Proceed on Monkey Road across the (unused) railroad tracks and through two stop signs, until it dead-ends into FM 1704.  Turn right on 1704.  Go almost 3 miles, until you pass the signs for Lower Elgin Road / Balch Road.  Look for a wooden fence with an Ancho Polo sign on the right - that's our much-appreciated neighbor with the beautiful polo ponies.  Turn right after their horse-exercise area, just past the mailbox with 2142 on it, and right before the large Christ the Reconciler sign.

From Houston via Giddings on 290

As you are coming into Elgin, look for Hwy 95 to Bastrop, just before a bridge crosses over 290.  Take a left on Hwy 95.  Take an immediate right on Fisher Street (which currently doesn't have a street sign, but is directly across from the driveway into the corner convenience store).  Proceed a short way, across the railroad tracks, until it dead-ends into FM 1704.  Turn left on 1704.  Go almost 5 miles, until you pass the signs for Lower Elgin Road / Balch Road.  Look for a wooden fence with an Ancho Polo sign on the right - that's our much-appreciated neighbor with the beautiful polo ponies.  Turn right after their horse-exercise area, just past the mailbox with 2142 on it, and right before the large Christ the Reconciler sign.

From Austin via Webberville on 969 (the scenic route)

Look for FM 1704 to Elgin on the left, about 12 miles after Hwy 130 (the toll road).  Take a left on 1704, and proceed about 5 miles.  Shortly after Family Worship Center (a big church on the right) and Speir Road, start looking for the Christ the Reconciler sign on the left.  Turn left into the dirt road just after that sign (and right before Ancho Polo's horse exercise area).

From Houston via Bastrop on 969

Look for FM 1704 to Elgin on the right, about 9 miles after you leave Hwy 71 in Bastrop (it's after the Colorado River, and right after Cedar Valley Baptist Church).  Take a right on 1704, and proceed about 5 miles.  Shortly after Family Worship Center (a big church on the right) and Speir Road, start looking for the Christ the Reconciler sign on the left.  Turn left into the dirt road just after that sign (and right before Ancho Polo's horse exercise area).
