Praying 1 John 2:1-6

I join with all who are praying *
to the Father, through the Son, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening Prayer

Plough deep in me, great Lord, heavenly husbandman, that my being may be a tilled field, the roots of grace spreading far and wide, until Thou alone art seen in me, Thy beauty golden like summer harvest, Thy fruitfulness as autumn plenty.

I have no master but Thee, no law but Thy will, no delight but Thyself, no wealth but that Thou givest, no good but that Thou blessest, no peace but that Thou bestowest. I am nothing but that Thou makest me. I have nothing but that I receive from Thee. I can be nothing but that grace adorns me. *
Quarry me deep, dear Lord, and then fill me to overflowing with living water.

- The Deeps, Puritan Prayer

Praying 1 John 2:1-6 (New International Version)

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father -- Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. *
We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

Response to the Scripture

Lord, purify our hearts that we may look with joy on your coming.

Draw near to God’s throne of grace
with the thanksgivings, prayers, & intercessions that are on your heart

Ending Prayer

Father, I ask for Your forgiveness first. Forgive me and others who have confessed Jesus Christ as Lord yet withheld our whole hearts from You. Help us to humble ourselves daily and be the yielded vessels that we proclaim to be. Help us to fulfill the first and second commandments. *
As we love You and love others, unity will rise to the surface and this world can began to see a glimpse of Your love. For You are love! I ask that You help us to dwell in Your presence individually & corporately with an undivided heart. In oneness, agreement and harmony.  When necessary, help us to be like Daniel who compromised yet was uncompromising.  Help us to dwell together in one mind, one purpose, and in One Name. The Name above all names.
